The best bitches in film and television

While watching some of my favourite old television shows and films over the past few weeks one thing became clear about my favourite characters from each of them  - they are all bitches and villians of each show and film. Each 'bitch' has the best one liners, the sassiest attitude and usually the best outfits on show. Bitches really have more fun! I decided to list some of my favourite sassiest girls of recent year.

First up is one of all time favourites - Libby Chesler from 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch'. Portrayed by Jenna Leigh Green, Libby had starred in the hit TV show from season 1 to 3. Portraying the head cheerleader, Libby was Sabrina's main enemy and made her misson to make Sabrina a laughing stock. Her quick exist in Season 4 made the show less fun as Sabrina went off to college. The first three seasons remain my favourite, only for Libby's brilliant one liners and name calling.

One of the most brilliant teen films of all time,'Mean Girls' is a clever showcasing on how ruthless, two faced and evil teen girls can be. This pack of bitches really show how its done these days - the world of frenemies is a dangerous one and this excellent film captures it perfectly. A list of phrases is now used because of the film such as 'So Fetch' and 'Frenemies'.

One of my favourite cartoons growing up was 'Hey Arnold!' on Nickelodeon. The best character by far was Helga Pataki. The one eyebrowed mean girl bullied Arnold on a daily basis and held onto a huge secret - she was secretly in love with him and would speak to her picture locket every time he left after she shouted at him. She was both funny, mean and sweet.

Another Nickelodeon bad girl,Angelica Pickels from 'Rugrats'. Now I feel odd calling a four year old girl a bitch so I'l just call her badass - and thats exactly what she was. Angelica only loved a few things - cookies, her doll Cynthia and annoying the Rugrats. Like 'Hey Arnolds' Helga, Angelica was mean, funny and also sweet - showing her nice side at rare moments.

The original mean girls of the 80's, 'Heathers' is one of my all time favourites. You can see where the inspiration came from for Mean Girls when watching this but it is very very different and very dark. Winona Ryder's character is about the join the group of Heathers (who all share the same name, bitch and play croquet). Ryder's character and hatred for her school turn to murder when she meets Christian Slaters character and choas insues. 'How Very' indeed.

Another early 90's tv show 'Sweet Valley High' was bases on the popular book series following the lives of the Wakefield twins. The bitch of the duo,Jessica,(on the left) was a man eating, popular and sassy cheerleader and often provided the drama between the twins.

My favourite character from the musical 'Grease' was played by Stockard Channing.Rizzo was the loveable bitch and head girl of the 'Pink Ladies'. Secretly insecure she sings about her problems in my favourite song in the film 'There are worse things I can do'.

Every character from 'Will & Grace' has provided plenty of laughs but none have come close to Karen Walker. Portrayed by the brilliant Megan Mullay,Walker married Stanly,a billionare, for his money but then fell in love with him.She got a job as Grace's assistant for her own strange reasons and from there she befriended camp Jack and the two caused a series of madcap problems and dramas in the show. She bitched at Grace and Will on a daily basis and made life hell for her maid,Rosario. A major drug addict, alcoholic and shopaholic Walker is one of the funniest bitches television has ever seen.

'Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Cordelia Chase began as the bitchy cheerleader and light hearted school villian who caused more distress for Buffy,Xaner and Williow. Throughout the series Cordelia provided laughs and dramatics and soon became loved by fans while she befriended the scooby gang. By Season four Cordelia changed to the spin off show 'Angel' where she kept her sassy attitude and helped Angel fight evil in LA.

A now cult classic 'Jawbreaker' showed what happens when high school pranks go wrong. When providing their friends with a birthday scare, they fake a kidnap and fill her mouth with a jawbreaker to stop the screaming. As part of their plan to cover up the murder the girls replace their dead friend with a newbie girl to join their popular ranks. Rose Mcgowan's role as the Queen B is fun mixed with evil and is the most memorable thing about the movie.

Real high school evilness - Megan Fox's demonic character wreaks havoc and goes through the schools boys one by one to keep herself looking good and healthy. Filled with laughs, thrills and scares,'Jennifer's Body' is a great treat.

More high school evil ,'The Craft' follows a modern day coven in high school come together to get what they each desire - things go down hill when the black arts are tampered with and the head of the coven played by the brilliant (and real life Wiccan) Fairulkza Balk shows just how evil a real bitch can be .... the final sequence where the girls go head to head is both brilliant and scary as all their real fears come to life - absloutly brilliant film.

One of televisions current best bitches is 'Glee's Sue Sylvester. Played by Jane Lynch, the cheerleading coach  stops at nothing to make the young group  cease their dancing and warbling. Lynch makes the show worth while and each of scenes are always the best and filled with brilliant quotes -  “What if I were to innocently murder you, Will? ... I’d still probably get off for justifiable homicide.”

'Ugly Betty's Wilhelmina Slater was a force to be wreckoned with. Her evil schemes and hatred for Betty and the rest of the staff made her the baddest bitch at Mode. Teamed with Amanda and Mark as her little slaves that awnsered to her bidding, the three together made the show funny and slick. When the show ended this year it was their fun moments that everyone knew they would miss the most.

Saving the best for laugh, one of my favourite shows of all time,'Popular' only aired for two seasons before it was cancelled, displeasing millions of loyal fans. The show was a madcap portryal of high school and was a mix of crazy comedy, over acting and strong drama. Nicole and Mary Cherry were some of the funniest, scariest and most of all, bitchiest characters of all time. I have a special devoted to the show coming up soon.

I hope you enjoyed the special,if you have some reccomendations to add to the list please mail me as I would love to hear from you!
