Music Rewind . . . Kelly Osbourne - Sleeping In The Nothing

In 2005 Kelly Osbourne returned to the music scene with a darker sophisticated image and a new electro 80's synth rock sound. Her first single off the album,'Sleeping In The Nothing,' [title inspired by Osbourne's favourite film 'The Neverending Story'] was,'One Word' a Visage influenced 80's electro mellow dramatic affair. The fantastic video showcased Osbourne's new look and the song hit the top ten in the UK and no.1 on three US Billboard dance charts [making her the first artist to do so]. The album was then released to positive reviews but dissapointing sales however it did peak at no.2 on the US heatseekers chart and no.2 on the US electro charts but failed to make an impact elsewhere.

The album was written by Linda Perry and Osbourne after her stints in rehab. Frankly speaking the album peaks at its opener,'One Word'. However there is a host of delicious electro treats and 80's inspired mid tempo ballads. 'Redlight' is a sparkly disco number while 'Suburbia' sees Osbourne go down the electro pop road with Alice In Wonderland inspired lyrics. Darker areas are explored on other songs such as 'Save Me' where Osbourne wonders why nobody helped when they saw her abusing herself. The mid tempo ballad 'I Cant Wait' stands out in paticular and 'Entrophy' sees her return to her rock sound with great results. The album does have some weak points but it generally holds up and is also supported by a stunning artwork.

The Japanese version of the album also sees Kelly cover the famous Stacey Q song ,'Two Of Hearts' which would of gone down well on the European album. Most of the songs are available to preview on youtube and the album is a well reccomended purchase. Available on itunes, amazon and most online stores.
